Many projects are underway, including a new and fabulous Niwot website, updates and improvements to the Niwot Sculpture Park as a joint project to bring more art in a park like setting, and renovation plans of Highway 119 entrance to Niwot to make it more available, safe, and friendly to Niwotians and visitors alike.

The NBA Budget has been developed for 2023 and includes funding for events, infrastructure, and marketing for Niwot. Niwot’s fabulous flowers will come back in 2023. Welcome to 2023!

NOTES FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

We are off to a great start to the year – we are planning the  Lucky Niwot day on March 11th , followed by around the world day on May 20th.

We got budget approval from the NBA for a retail map to be installed in the market and the emporium. Design is in process as I type – hoping to present at the next retail meeting.

Some people are having trouble with passwords and we are working to iron those issues out. some of it may be related to the fact that this is a test version.

There will be a brief demo at the February NBA Meeting of this, also.

NOTES FROM RETAIL COMMITTEE

There is an up and coming fabulous retailers map of Niwot in the works. Funding has been acquired for this.

So excited to announce that the Shop Niwot instagram/facebook page is live and flourishing. In just under 3 weeks, followers have grown to over 400 potential shoppers. Kristina Burgoon’s (administrator) goal is to obtain 1,000 followers by 2023. Incredible! The NBA has approved funds (nov + dec) for instagram ads as well. I’ve seen my beautifully designed ad run on my personal facebook page and I love it. Please follow us on instagram and facebook @shopniwot

The retail shopping guide has been printed and distributed in the November issue of the LHVC. We are all thankful for this push in advertising.

In our Nov meeting, the retailers talked about their experiences with the October pumpkin walk. Everyone said they benefited from this event and retail sales were made. YAY!

We also talked about the Trick or Treating event on Saturday, Oct 29th. It seems as though Old Town flourished more than Cottonwood Square. Approximately 1,000 kids were seen in Old Town vs. 250 – 300 kids in Cottonwood Square. The Cottonwood retailers would love to see more activity in their part of town next year and are open to ideas on how to accomplish this.

The Niwot Retail Committee meets the third Thursday of the month at 9 am, Winot Coffee. Feel free to join this lively group.

If you would like to reach out, please email Sarah Cioni at [email protected]

NOTES FROM STREETSCAPES

Eddie Running Wolf’s Tree Carving:

The Spear Lodge Man tree sculpture was cut down on Saturday, Oct 3, 2021 and was moved to Jeff Wolcott’s bay late Fall on Niwot Road.Repairs have begun, and this will be a labor of love and time. We expect to have the repairs done by late summer or early fall, 2022. Maquettes that are 18-24 inches tall are being designed to be sold to help fund this project. Ongoing work

Maquettes

The project to have maquettes of Eddie Running Wolf’s Tree Carving is coming into being. Dave Lee and the class at CU have made 3D print images of this sculpture. Thank you to Dave Lee! Image below:

The parking lot is open and ready for use! A ribbon cutting was held in early January 2023.

Notes from the meeting:

Eric Bergeson thanked Mary and Tim Coonce for hosting the NBA. They thanked Niwot Market for providing the amazing food for the night.

Eric congratulated Sarah Cioni for being nominated to the L.I.D.

Jerilyn Patterson of Wandering Jellyfish Bookshop noted they will have Drag Queen Story Time and they were told there would be protestors. The event sold out, and you can follow this at https://www.twjbookshop.com/events

Elections results were announced and everyone on the NBA Exec Board was re-elected, including

Eric Bergeson as President

Deb Read Fowler as Vice President

Mary Coonce as Treasurer

Nancy Bureau as Secretary

Nancy was not present, and Eric apologized for her absence. The NBA understood.

The crowd thanked Eric and the NBA Exec Board, and Eric thanked the Board for their efforts in the past year.

Eric gave an overview of 2022. Eric Bergeson told the NBA membership that Catherine McHale will be moving on from Economic Development  Director of the NBA.  Eric thanked Catherine profusely for all she has done for Niwot and the NBA. Catherine did so much more than her EDD role, and really promoted and enriched Niwot.

Revenue looks strong for 2023 for the NBA and for Niwot businesses. December 2022 broke records from the L.I.D. tax. Membership is strong even with changes in due structures. A lot of people are coming to Niwot to check out the town, and businesses are doing well overall. There still are some vacancies to fill! Dr. Niles Dentistry is moving to town. Colterra is still moving forward. The budget has no dramatic changes to it and the NBA will ask L.I.D. for the same funding as 2022.

Questions were asked about the Chief Niwot project, and Biff Warren explained that the project is moving forward, and there may be tipis put up and painted by Native Americans to help bring attention to Chief Niwot.

Questions were asked about Colterra and projected re-opening times, and Mary Coonce noted there is a lot going into this project, so times have been altered. She assured the NBA that the project is moving forward.

Catherine McHale did a wonderful demonstration of the new NBA/Niwot website. The new website is aiming for modernization and user friendly-ness, with a focus on events and an interactive map. There are improved business access points on it. Catherine will help any business that prefers to pull info from the old Niwot website, and she offered to have a one-on-one Zoom or meeting with anyone who wants help.

Please note dues are due!Julie Stenz will be checking with businesses. Please drop off your check to Mary Coonce at Porchfront Homes and have your check written to the NBA, or use the website link to pay.

Biff Warren spoke about Rock & Rails 2023, and there are 14 concerts planned from June 1st to August 31, 2023.

There were BoyScouts in attendance to learn how meetings are held. They were applauded.

Biff Warren noted that Left Hand Valley Courier needs more writers. If you are interested please email [email protected]

Bank of Estes Park is hiring! Please apply!

Please try to park in the parking lot to save spaces for customers on 2nd Ave!
