NOTES FROM THE MEETING
NBA Meeting March 14, 2023
Deb Read Fowler opened the NBA Meeting. She welcomed the NBA and thanked Kelsey Deboard and Cimmini’s for hosting the NBA. Deb noted that Cimmini’s charcuterie board is delightful, and encouraged everyone to enjoy the patio at Cimmini’s as Spring begins.
Deb welcomed and introduced Elorie Slater from The Scout Guide. She introduced herself and handed out copies of The Scout Guide. The Scout Guide is 100% owned by female business owners and all of the members in the guide are independently owned. She started as a consultant and coach for small businesses and she and her husband bought a local Boulder independent business. She had seen the Scout Guide in other cities, and The Scout Guide Boulder will be a beautifully curated and developed view of independent businesses in Boulder. The Scout Guide is a nationally represented and respected guide for people looking to immerse themselves in local culture and experiences. She wants to involve Niwot businesses because she believes Niwot is the best day trip within Boulder County as an insider’s way to view Boulder County. She noted there are 20000 guides published yearly across the country, and it is only published once yearly as a look book. She then distributes them to highly engaged residents and visitors. This then links people across the country with a national website, and as people travel, they use the Scout Guide as highly engageable resources looking for unique experiences. See https://www.boulder.thescoutguide.com/.
She noted Denver and Aspen have The Scout Guide. The Scout Guide will be published to match Small Business Saturday in November. She brought visual aids to show different ways the NBA could benefit from The Scout Guide, including ideas that the NBA as a whole could have an ad in The Scout Guide. Membership is annual and a one page ad is $5000 for the year. There are options for a collective ad. Deb Read Fowler asked NBA Members to reach out to her if they are interested in a collective ad.
Anne Postle asked any business that has Wine About Winter $10 coupons to please turn them in to her for reimbursement!
Anne Postle talked about a project that Erie school children did where they wrote on paper bags what they were hoping for in the year and what they were grateful for in the year, and they then placed them around the town as paper bag luminaries and had parents find their child’s bag. Anne would like to offer this idea as an event for Fall 2023. Please reach out to Anne [email protected] if you are interested; she does not want to be this champion, and she would assist a champion to do this.
Rock & Rails Sponsorship is here! Reach out to Kathy Truaner at [email protected] if you are thinking of sponsorship! There are 14 concerts this year from June to September.
Michael of Niwot Roofing introduced himself as a new Niwot business. He is a Boulder County native. He is opening a new business called Niwot Roofing and he is excited to start a roofing business in a town he loves! He and his team will be available next month!
Kathy Koehler spoke and asked for photos from the 80’s and 90’s for a lecture she is hosting on Niwot in the 1980’s and 1990’s and this lecture will be archived and given April 26th.
Catherine McHale noted Dancing Under the Stars will be happening again starting June 16th to mid Sept with 15 dates. She is looking for sponsorship for this wonderful Niwot event. Please reach out to her at [email protected]
Catherine McHale thanked the NBA. This is her last meeting as Economic Development Director and she was given a round of applause. Deb thanked her for her work for Niwot.
Pat Murphy noted that the Niwot Easter Egg Hunt has been going on 43 years, and she would like to keep this as a community based event and asked that it stay as a Niwot event and not as a publicized event on social media to keep that small town feel. She feels this event gives Niwot children roots and an event to look forward to.If you are interested in volunteering, reach out to [email protected]
Biff Warren noted that the Bike Way Median Project Hearing is tomorrow and he asked people to participate virtually for this. He asked people to advocate for Niwot for safety for cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles. You can submit comments on line, also.
Anne Postle spoke about the Niwot Feed Store. The current owner is willing to rent it out for cultural events, and Open Studios in Boulder has rented it for previous events. The easiest way to rent it is to reach out to Biff Warren via the NCAA at [email protected]
The meeting adjourned at 7:05p and we did not have a formal mixer. The NBA will have this at another future date!!

Some people are having trouble with passwords and we are working to iron those issues out. some of it may be related to the fact that this is a test version.

There will be a brief demo at the February NBA Meeting of this, also.
There is an up and coming fabulous retailers map of Niwot in the works. Funding has been acquired for this.
So excited to announce that the Shop Niwot instagram/facebook page is live and flourishing. In just under 3 weeks, followers have grown to over 400 potential shoppers. Kristina Burgoon’s (administrator) goal is to obtain 1,000 followers by 2023. Incredible! The NBA has approved funds (nov + dec) for instagram ads as well. I’ve seen my beautifully designed ad run on my personal facebook page and I love it. Please follow us on instagram and facebook @shopniwot
The retail shopping guide has been printed and distributed in the November issue of the LHVC. We are all thankful for this push in advertising.
In our Nov meeting, the retailers talked about their experiences with the October pumpkin walk. Everyone said they benefited from this event and retail sales were made. YAY!
We also talked about the Trick or Treating event on Saturday, Oct 29th. It seems as though Old Town flourished more than Cottonwood Square. Approximately 1,000 kids were seen in Old Town vs. 250 – 300 kids in Cottonwood Square. The Cottonwood retailers would love to see more activity in their part of town next year and are open to ideas on how to accomplish this.
The Niwot Retail Committee meets the third Thursday of the month at 9 am, Winot Coffee. Feel free to join this lively group.
If you would like to reach out, please email Sarah Cioni at [email protected]
IMPORTANT: There will be a paving project on 2nd Ave in May 2023 by Boulder County and there may be partial street closures for 1-4 days. Dates are yet to be set, and the NBA will be notified via email multiple times about this project to improve Niwot. See https://bouldercounty.gov/transportation/closures-and-construction/ for updates.
Eddie Running Wolf’s Tree Carving:
The Spear Lodge Man tree sculpture was cut down on Saturday, Oct 3, 2021 and was moved to Jeff Wolcott’s bay late Fall on Niwot Road.Repairs have begun, and this will be a labor of love and time. We expect to have the repairs done by late summer or early fall, 2022. Maquettes that are 18-24 inches tall are being designed to be sold to help fund this project. Ongoing work
Maquettes
The project to have maquettes of Eddie Running Wolf’s Tree Carving is coming into being. Dave Lee and the class at CU have made 3D print images of this sculpture. Thank you to Dave Lee! Image below:
