NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the New Year!  The NBA Executive Board has been working hard to present new and innovative ideas to all NBA Members, as well as to preserve and fortify events and ideas that make Niwot a Small Town, Big Heart place to be. The upcoming year will have some favorite events from years past, and some new ones. This year, we are looking to support NBA Members even more. At the January NBA meeting, the 2023 Budget will be discussed, and the NBA Executive Board is looking for ideas from each NBA Member. Also, Membership Benefits have been enhanced and updated to fit the needs of the NBA Membership better, and Julie Stenz will discuss this.

We look forward to seeing you in January, and all through 2023!

NOTES FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

Happy New Year to you all.

The Holiday Magic 4- date events went extremely well – we gave out 500 candy canes, the Enchanted evening and Holiday parade were well attended  and having beautiful weather helped. We  had record attendees at the two day Holiday fayre : 12/3   749 people this year in 2022 versus 604 on the first Saturday in 2021.  Then on the second Saturday in 2022 we had 626 this year versus  524 last year. A few additions this year were live music in the afternoon of the fayre and we had a xmas tree charity drive in Niwot market which raised almost $2,000 for various local charities – if we decide to do this in 2023, we need to finetune the logistics.

The new Santa and Mrs Clause was a hit with overall positive feedback received.

We are finalising the NBA event schedule for 2023 and look forward to a great year.

NOTES FROM RETAIL COMMITTEE

So excited to announce that the Shop Niwot instagram/facebook page is live and flourishing. In just under 3 weeks, followers have grown to over 400 potential shoppers. Kristina Burgoon’s (administrator) goal is to obtain 1,000 followers by 2023. Incredible! The NBA has approved funds (nov + dec) for instagram ads as well. I’ve seen my beautifully designed ad run on my personal facebook page and I love it. Please follow us on instagram and facebook @shopniwot

The retail shopping guide has been printed and distributed in the November issue of the LHVC. We are all thankful for this push in advertising.

In our Nov meeting, the retailers talked about their experiences with the October pumpkin walk. Everyone said they benefited from this event and retail sales were made. YAY!

We also talked about the Trick or Treating event on Saturday, Oct 29th. It seems as though Old Town flourished more than Cottonwood Square. Approximately 1,000 kids were seen in Old Town vs. 250 – 300 kids in Cottonwood Square. The Cottonwood retailers would love to see more activity in their part of town next year and are open to ideas on how to accomplish this.

Niwot Retail Committee meets the third Thursday of the month at 9 am, Winot Coffee. Feel free to join this lively group.

If you would like to reach out, please email Sarah Cioni at [email protected]

The Spear Lodge Man tree sculpture was cut down on Saturday, Oct 3, 2021 and was moved to Jeff Wolcott’s bay late Fall on Niwot Road.Repairs have begun, and this will be a labor of love and time. We expect to have the repairs done by late summer or early fall, 2022. Maquettes that are 18-24 inches tall are being designed to be sold to help fund this project.

The project to have maquettes of Eddie Running Wolf’s Tree Carving is coming into being. Dave Lee and the class at CU have made 3D print images of this sculpture. Thank you to Dave Lee! Image below:

NOTES FROM TREASURER

Specific questions about the NBA budget can be directed to [email protected].

Our cash position is still strong despite our revenue this year was not as high as expected.   Membership was down slightly and Rock and Rails income was $15,000 compared to budgeted amount $25,000.  R&R revenue was down due to necessary repairs to the park.  NBA Operating expense was under budget, however, due to increase in demand, Event spending and Social Media was increased.   Event and Social media spending was a good investment as sales tax revenue from LID is up!  Net rollover to next year is $20,052.

Meeting Notes

NBA Meeting notes Jan 10, 2023

Eric Bergeson opened the meeting  welcoming the NBA to 2023 and by thanking Ali Webster and Rocky Mountain Church for hosting. Ali Webster noted she was happy to host and grateful the NBA could come. Eric Bergeson noted that while Julie Stenz the NBA Membership Coordinator was planning on attending to give a full presentation, she was wonderful about creating a benefit sheet, which was handed out and is scanned in as a document here: https://mcusercontent.com/b34bb3502b605c732c9ffada2/images/8a2ed656-25fb-bc90-592b-97f9d8eb3c6c.png

Eric noted that the tax revenue base for Niwot is strong, though the business revenue is a bit weaker in Cottonwood Square. The NBA is sensitive to this, and looks forward to working with retailers. Eric and the NBA Exec Board are excited to work with Sarah Cioni as a link to the retailers.

Mary  from the Plein Air Festival that will be June 3-11, 2023. She spoke about the festival. During this festival, artists would be present through Niwot creating their pieces and then there would be an art show and celebration  on June 11th with an ongoing show afterward. Open Studios is currently renting the previous Niwot Feed Store, and they are interested in renting this building again and making Niwot the headquarters for the Plein Air Event. They are looking for individual businesses  and individuals to sponsor awards. For this event, thirty to thirty five artists from around the region and country are selected to participate and produce art and they will show it. She is excited to work with local businesses to exhibit and promote art. Artists arrive Saturday June 3rd and begin producing their varied art pieces. . In total, she is looking for a pool of $15000 or more as a fund for awards for the artists.  If your business is interested in sponsorship, or if you know an individual who would like to sponsor an artist, please reach out to [email protected]. See https://www.openstudios.org/boulder-plein-air-fest for more information.

Catherine McHale spoke about the new Niwot website. It is more user friendly, and there will be a portal area in the website that will be designed for NBA members to use to add videos, documents, member events, and so much more! Catherine McHale will do a Zoom walk through of the new website and how it will work to claim your business listing next week on Tuesday  at 6pm. An invitation will go out soon!

Mary Coonce, NBA Treasurer, spoke about the updated NBA Dues. Dues for 2023 are $200. Learn more here:https://mcusercontent.com/b34bb3502b605c732c9ffada2/images/8a2ed656-25fb-bc90-592b-97f9d8eb3c6c.png

Eric Bergeson spoke about the NBA dues.  The value that NBA provides is to stewardship and leadership in working with the county, and is guiding events that benefit the NBA businesses. With the additions of an updated website and improved marketing, this is a huge value for your business marketing.

Eric Bergeson noted that he and Mary Coonce will be talking to the L.I.D. about adding administrative help for the NBA.

Anne Postle spoke about Wine About Winter that is Feb 11th. If you wish to participate, reach out to Kristin Alger [email protected]. Tickets are available on eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lets-wine-about-winter-in-niwot-2023-tickets-465223535117?aff=ebdssbdestsearch and the event will be so fun! There are lots of ways to participate, so please reach out! This is a great way to draw patrons to your business on a sleepy Saturday in February. Questions were asked…please reach out to Kristin Alger at the above email.

Pat Murphy asked if we all would welcome Lorenzo at Lefty’s Pizza. They have worked hard to establish their pizza shop!

Abo’s Pizza will be another six months before it can open. Please think of good things for Abo’s! https://www.gofundme.com/f/abos-pizza-niwot-fire-fund

Eric showed a huge conceptual plan and map that will be suggested to Boulder County as they plan changes to the Diagonal. Depicted will be to bring the presence of town out to the Diagonal to promote people to come to Niwot. Planned could be a bicycle and pedestrian underpass from the Diagonal to town, as well as alter the dangers at that intersection for bicycles, pedestrians, and cars. Eric noted that the NBA and NFL are working on future planning for Niwot for a master plan for Niwot for the next 4-5 years.

Biff Warren noted that the Niwot Semi Marching Band will play the National Anthem on  July 14th, 2023 for the Rockies/Yankees Game. See https://niwotarts.org/semi-marching-free-grange-band/

There is a Soup, Soup and More Event at Niwot Methodist Church Saturday Feb 25th. See https://www.facebook.com/events/669853104825446
