NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

This month, the NBA will have the Boulder Sheriff’s Department come to Niwot to talk about businesses and safety. We all want businesses to be safe and for all Niwot workers to be comfortable in their workplaces and going to and from work.

Summer is full of events, and the NBA is working on Summer events and upcoming Fall events.

Local NBA members are working on an idea to have Niwot be a wedding destination with Whistle Stop Park as an outdoor venue, and local flower shops, restaurant catering, and shops would all benefit.

There is a proposed a proposed new minimum wage in Boulder County that would be 15% above the state’s minimum wage. Learn more here https://bouldercounty.gov/news/boulder-county-to-introduce-local-minimum-wage-in-2024/#:~:text=Boulder%20County%2C%20Colo.,1%2C%202024.

Angela Hudgins is working with NBA members and with NBA Exec members to streamline how the NBA works. She is open to your ideas, and would love to meet you! Reach out at [email protected]

NOTES FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

Lots of great events  in the works – Oktoberfest 9/30, Honey bee 8/16, Niwot Out and About 8/23, Pumpkin walk  -month of October, thank you to all the businesses participating.

Holiday magic which consists of 4 events – Enchanted evening 11/24, Holiday Parade 11/25 and two holiday fayres 12/2 and 12/9  in full works – Santa and Mrs Claus confirmed, candy canes ordered, luminieres ordered – we are on track for some fabulous, festive fun.

We have several new entrants for the holiday parade and looking into extending the route to end in Cottonwood square – still in the early stages of discussion.

11/24 is going to be a particularly busy day – because as well as the holiday parade, it is small business Saturday and we will be launching the Niwot Nickel and Niwot Shopping bag in support. It is also the launch day of the Scout Guide where we have many Niwot businesses participating.

We have a new NBA tent and booked booth space for the Unity in the Community Event in Longmont on the rescheduled date of 10/6  giving all NBA members opportunities to promote their business. Please note this event was originally planned for 8/25 but was rescheduled due to wet weather.

Events schedule updated and already confirming dates for 2024 so we can all plan ahead.

Congrats to Kathy Trauner – she is the winner this month for submitting 42 email addresses for the Niwot newsletter that goes out every Thursday – we are now up to 2200 email addresses which is 20% up from when the marketing committee was formed three months ago- let’s keep growing this together.

The Spear Lodge Man tree sculpture was cut down on Saturday, Oct 3, 2021 and was moved to Jeff Wolcott’s bay late Fall on Niwot Road.Repairs have begun, and this will be a labor of love and time. We expect to have the repairs done by late summer or early fall, 2023. Maquettes that are 18-24 inches tall are being designed to be sold to help fund this project.

Maquettes

The project to have maquettes of Eddie Running Wolf’s Tree Carving is coming into being. Dave Lee and the class at CU have made 3D print images of this sculpture. Thank you to Dave Lee! Image below:

Here, also, is a link with a video about restoration. https://niwotsculptures.weebly.com/

NOTES FROM ROCK & RAILS

  • Rock & Rails’ 2023 season was June 1st and ran through August 31st, for a total of 14 concerts this year! The season was wonderful!
  • As a reminder for 2024, NBA members are required to volunteer at Rock & Rails as part of the NBA/NCA joint agreement. Please mark your calendars NOW for Thurs night volunteer shifts for 2024!
  • The concerts of the season have gone smoothly, thanks to the efforts of the volunteers. Rain interrupted a few concerts but average attendance was up by over 100 people per concert in spite of the weather. Average alcohol sales were up by over $600 per night, and the tip jars averaged $1,990 per night. Crowds were well-behaved, with wonderful musicians performing again, and we were able to keep it a zero-waste event with help from over 100 volunteers.  The event is co-managed by the NBA and the Niwot Cultural Arts Association, with Dan Hawk of the NBA and Vicki Maurer and Dan Hawk of the NCAA serving as co-managers.
  • The organizing committee would like to thank all of our generous sponsors: Gunbarrel Motors, Niwot Tavern, 1914 House, Cottonwood Square, DRF Real Estate, Niwot Natural Medicine, Nourish & Company, The Pomeroy Group, Porchfront Homes, Slifer Smith & Frampton, The Wheel House, Zenith Realty, Bank of Estes Park, Bootstrap Brewing and High Country Beverage , Harness Energy, Hampton Inn, Niwot United Methodist Church, Warren Carlson & Moore, Creative Design Solutions, Fletemeyer & Lee Associates, Fritz Family Brewing, Lake Valley Golf Club, Niles Family Dentistry, Summit Commercial, Edward Jones, Fly Away Home, Inkberry Books, Left Hand Animal Hospital, and We Love Trees.

 NOTES FROM THE TOWN ADMINISTRATOR

Thank you for allowing me to serve in this role. I have enjoyed meeting many of you through meetings and event planning. The last few months have been very busy with the following: updating our event calendar, answering emails from both the community and town members, coordinating maintenance around town, updating NBA memberships and the directory (we have received at least 9 more membership payments since our last meeting), event planning and more. I am always available if you need assistance in getting your business listing updated on the website. You may have also seen our new participation forms that we will be using for each event. Each consists of a short questionnaire to let us know if and how your business would like to participate in each Niwot event. You can always reach me at [email protected]

NOTES FROM TREASURER

Specific questions about the NBA budget can be directed to [email protected].

Sales tax revenue is slightly down from last year to date through June.  2.1% decrease.  Remote sales account for a large portion of the decrease.  Brick and mortar businesses reflect no change from 2022.

I recently sent out reminder invoices for those who have not yet paid membership dues.   If you have not yet paid, or need an invoice, please contact me at the email listed above.
