NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT
Fall is here, and Niwot and the NBA have wonderful events for families this month. The Great Pumpkin Event has become a tradition for Niwotians, and the NBA is proud to support it and the Great Pumpkin Pet Costume Contest.
The NBA is looking for your feedback on how 2023 went for your business, and how the NBA can better support you and your business in 2024.
This month, the NBA will have a feedback session to solicit feedback on the NBA budget priorities and how things have gone during the past year. Alicia Zamora and Kristina Burgdoon will talk about some of the website stats since the redesign and will talk about some of the new resources available to members in the member portal.
Please look at this information about engagement on the NBA website; Niwot.com & Newsletter Stats Oct 2023.pdf
There is a proposed a proposed new minimum wage in Boulder County that would be 15% above the state’s minimum wage. Learn more here https://bouldercounty.gov/news/boulder-county-to-introduce-local-minimum-wage-in-2024/#:~:text=Boulder%20County%2C%20Colo.,1%2C%202024.

NOTES FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT
Lots of great events in the works – Oktoberfest 9/30, Honey bee 8/16, Niwot Out and About 8/23, Pumpkin walk -month of October, thank you to all the businesses participating.
Holiday magic which consists of 4 events – Enchanted evening 11/24, Holiday Parade 11/25 and two holiday fayres 12/2 and 12/9 in full works – Santa and Mrs Claus confirmed, candy canes ordered, luminieres ordered – we are on track for some fabulous, festive fun.
We have several new entrants for the holiday parade and looking into extending the route to end in Cottonwood square – still in the early stages of discussion.
11/24 is going to be a particularly busy day – because as well as the holiday parade, it is small business Saturday and we will be launching the Niwot Nickel and Niwot Shopping bag in support. It is also the launch day of the Scout Guide where we have many Niwot businesses participating.
We have a new NBA tent and booked booth space for the Unity in the Community Event in Longmont on the rescheduled date of 10/6 giving all NBA members opportunities to promote their business. Please note this event was originally planned for 8/25 but was rescheduled due to wet weather.
Events schedule updated and already confirming dates for 2024 so we can all plan ahead.
Congrats to Kathy Trauner – she is the winner this month for submitting 42 email addresses for the Niwot newsletter that goes out every Thursday – we are now up to 2200 email addresses which is 20% up from when the marketing committee was formed three months ago- let’s keep growing this together.

Thank you for allowing me to serve in this role. I have enjoyed meeting many of you through meetings and event planning. The last few months have been very busy with the following: updating our event calendar, answering emails from both the community and town members, coordinating maintenance around town, updating NBA memberships and the directory (we have received at least 9 more membership payments since our last meeting), event planning and more. I am always available if you need assistance in getting your business listing updated on the website. You may have also seen our new participation forms that we will be using for each event. Each consists of a short questionnaire to let us know if and how your business would like to participate in each Niwot event. You can always reach me at [email protected]

Meeting Notes
Eric Bergeson opened the meeting and thanked Left Hand Grange for hosting. The Grange is a beautiful space, and the Grange supports Niwot and Niwotians. The NBA enjoyed the vegetable platter, cheese, and beverages very much. Jim Dorvee of Left Hand Grange spoke about the Grange that the Grange has made good progress to come together as a Board and many Niwot Associations can use the Left Hand Grange for free. The floor has been redone and is beautiful. The Grange has had renewed interest due to improvements, marketing, and word of mouth. Jim introduced the members of Left Hand Grange that were there and thanked the Left Hand Grange Board members for all they have done. If you are interested in being a Grange member, it costs $50 per year and the fee is Jim noted he would love every NBA member to be involved in using the Grange and supporting it. The Grange Organization will celebrate it’s 150th Year next year. Left Hand Grange would like to become a 501c and is working on that; Dayna Roane spoke that once it is a 501c, the Grange will be even more available. If you rent the space and want to have alcohol, you need insurance and the Grange will help you obtain that for roughly $150 per event. If you want to sell alcohol, a permit is needed, and the Grange can help you get that for approximately $25.
Check out Left Hand Grange! https://lefthandgrange.org/about/
Eric announced that this meeting is for getting feedback from the NBA members, and to give information about the NBA website. Eric introduced Alicia Zamora, the NBA webmaster.
Eric introduced Collin Eggebrecht as a guest of Dayna Roane’s. He works with Dayna and wanted to introduce himself. As part of putting his roots down, he wants to be more involved in his communities. He was welcomed.
Eric noted there is a meeting on Nov 6th to talk about future ideas for Niwot with various Niwot groups such as the NCA, NCAA, NFL, and NBA coming together to discuss this. As news, the Franklin Commons (corner of Franklin and 2nd, previously known as Colterra)has been purchased and permits are pulled and there will be 5 residential units with a restaurant to be there and commercial space. Anne Postle asked NBA members to reach out to restaurant owners and ask if they want to rent this space. The patio space is fabulous!
Sarah Cioni spoke that there is a reality show that is featuring her work called Married at First Sight on the Lifetime Channel. https://www.mylifetime.com/shows/married-at-first-sight
Congratulations to Belle Terre and Sarah Cioni!
Niwot United Methodist Churchis having a Sun Oct 29 1-3p Trunk or Treat! Join in the fun! https://www.niwotumc.org/about
Nancy Bureau (me!) spoke about upcoming NBA Elections in Feb 2024. Now is the time to nominate! Emails have gone out to the NBA to ask for candidates. The present NBA Board is running for these positions. Also the NBA is moving to partner with Left Hand Grange and MOST (and not all) 2024 meetings will be at Left Hand Grange. Also, in 2024, the NBA will have a published report quarterly, rather than monthly.
Eric Bergeson spoke about what the NBA has accomplished this year. The NBA has worked to improve and re-improve the NBA website. The NBA has introduced and supported some new events in town to create more of a buzz about town. The NBA has added administration to help coordinate and streamline NBA events.
Anne Postle spoke about how Colterra sold and the person who bought it bought it because they came in during the Honeybee Festivala nd fell in love with the town. She spoke about how the zest and people of Niwot help so much to bring Niwot to life. Eric noted that while events are important, he has gotten feedback that people have event fatigue, and so the NBA has noted which events are unique and draw people to town, and which events do not.
Biff Warren spoke about the survival of retail in town. He would like to have an event that the only way to get tickets is to have receipts from NBA businesses from the month before.
Angela Hudgins is making good progress in setting up Streetscapes; there was some catch up work that needed to be done and that is done and she has lighting for the holidays set up.
Kamla Chopra asked how the Oktoberfest was received, and Mary Coonce spoke about the event as a success, but there were some communication issues with businesses in the Cottonwood parking lot. The earlier portion of the day was not busy and it picked up later in the day. The crowd was about 750 for the day. Feedback was to shorten the event and to get volunteers to sign up.
Sarah Cioni wondered if there could be a set of guidelines to give to champions for events to help give details of what has worked in the past.
Kathy Koehler asked for volunteers this Saturday with ladders to put up NCA Veteran’s Day Banners on the light posts.
Alicia Zamora spoke about the website. She does graphic design for the NBA and monitors the website. Since the redesign, subscribers has jumped from 730 participants to over 2300. Much of the traffic was due to events in Niwot. There are over 8000-10000 people who visit the website each month. Rock and Rails is huge. Newsletter subscriptions increased due to Dancing Under the Stars, Honeybee Festival, and Rock and Rails and other events. She noted it has been great to see the huge jump
The member portal on the website has only 1 log in and the NBA log in is quite easy now. Once logged in, you can see viewers on your web page, and you can fill in your own photos, etc. She encourages businesses to change and adjust things like business hours, events, etc. Business events can be posted there, and once Alicia approves them, they go directly to the event page. Member bylaws, monthly reports, NBA meeting dates, etc all can be found here.If you have trouble adding your logo, email Alicia and she will use her graphic designer super powers to help! Alicia will send out an email with updated instructions on how to log in and claim your spot on the NBA website!
Meeting adjourned at 650p.
