The mission statement for the NCC is to promote opportunities for connection and learning in older adults (people over age 49). Eve noted that people have joined from not just Niwot, and they have over 400 people in the group. They would like to help with events in Niwot and they are a platform for building ideas and creating friendships and supporting the community of Niwot. Dawn Server said that Niwot doesn’t have a Senior Center, and this links people together. They meet monthly at the Grange with multiple member driven sub groups, such as birding, brew hopping, cooking, hiking, tree committee, mahjong, and so much more! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1078638282939893/

He spoke about the annual and special projects that the NCA does to keep Niwot beautiful and connected as a community. NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

The weather is getting warmer (and rainier!) There are many many events coming up to bring visitors and families to Niwot. Please volunteer for these events!  Niwot is run by volunteers, and you can help! If you do have an event that you wish NBA sponsorship for your upcoming event, please remember that your event needs to go through the NBA Exec Committee. Reach out to an NBA Exec Board Member, and we will help! Getting NBA support can help to procure funding, get volunteers, and can’t be done retroactively.

The Niwot Future League is continuing to talk about the connectivity of Cottonwood Square and 2nd Ave.

The NBA is continuing discussion with Boulder County about a bikeway/pedestrian walk from 119 to Niwot. It may be that the NBA is asked to help financially with this project.

The NBA Exec will submit a letter to Boulder County regarding the increase in property tax, saying that this is a huge and difficult increase for small businesses in Niwot. If you have received your property tax assessment, know that you can protest it. If you need help with this, reach out to any of the NBA Exec Board.

NOTES FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT

The retail wall map ( that will be in the Emporium and Niwot market) has been updated to include dining so a final proof is in the works.

Round the world was an overall successful day with more entertainment around town – all the restaurants were busy but the retail was quieter. Some factors affecting retail are increased consumer costs eg property tax, insurance, inflation and interest have all increased at the same time and people are spending less in general. The other factor was the date of the event coincided with end of school and graduations, with that in mind, the events committee have decided to do the event at the end of April Next Year.

We are on track for another successful Lobsterfest – thank you to all who have contributed tp the silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction will go to Niwot Sculpture park.

We will be submitting a a LID request for funds for the Welcome MS BIke race  with Niwot as one of the Welcome spots for the race 1500 riders who will come through Niwot 7.30-10am on June 24th.- Maps, Events schedule and $5 tokens for 1500 rider’s families will be given out -pLus 200 flags for spectators. Strongly encouraging businesses to open early that day and be part of the fun.

The Honey bee festival will be on the 16th September the committee would like to know how to participate so we can have a timetable printed well in advance. Please email Deb Fowler at [email protected] to let them know how you want to participate.

We are also working on a wooden Niwot Nickel program that will be worth $5  and double $10 in January to encourage more retail traffic – this is the brainstorm stage and all feedback welcome.

As the NBA are part of the Longmont Chamber – we are considering having an NBA tent at the annual Unity in the Community event in Longmont on August 25th 4 – 9pm, this would be an opportunity for businesses to give out promotional swag for their business and man the tent.

More Exciting news!  Oliver Fowler will be completing his Eagle Scout project, which will be building a large, robust cart to carry the dance floor  for dancing under the stars – just in time for the new season.

NOTES FROM  NIWOT MARKETING

The marketing committee has formed with representation from both retail and dining, Cottonwood Square and 2nd Avenue.

We have Lisa Balcom ( Farow, Cottonwood Square), Angela Milterson (Few of a Kind Vintage), Deb Fowler ( VP NBA), Alicia Zamora ( Alicia Marie Creative -Graphic Design), Kristina Burgoon ( Studio Kyanite – Social media) and Angela Hudgins ( Town Adminstrator).

The deliverables for the rest of the year are the following:

  1. Revamp of the website – a test group of 12 business owners was sent a test link on May 24th  and feedback is needed by May 31st. All feedback and requests will be reviewed and considered – and accommodated if possible. This will be a success and we want as many stakeholders to be part of the solution.
  2. Print of the Retail and Dining wall map for the Emporium and Niwot Market
  3. Updated paper Map and regular distribution
  4. Updated Events schedule card and regular distribution ( 800 have been given already out in the month of May 2023)
  5. Printed ads in Courier, Longmont Magazine and Scout Guide
  6. Increase the number of Niwot Newsletter readers
  7. Agree a set of monthly stats to report each month

There was a  full page ad featuring all the Niwot Summer events in the May edition of the Longmont magazine distributed to 25,500 homes in addition to a 4 page article on all the Summer events – although there were a couple of mis quotes, the important thing is that Niwot was heavily  highlighted as the place to be this Summer – great for the town.

Although the official scout guide isn’t launched until November 25th,  businesses are already being featured on their social media.

We are delighted to report the first month of stats – May 2023 – we will add metrics on Scoutguide after the official launch in November 2023.

NOTES FROM RETAIL COMMITTEE

We had a great turnout for the March and April retail committee meeting. Thanks everyone.

Retailers all agreed that Lucky Niwot Day was a success. Thankful for Deb Fowler and her team for all their hard work in making the event fun while driving customers and sales to our shops.

On another note, there seems to be an uptick in shops reporting theft crimes and there may be a trend with this happening during these special events. One retailer suggested that we hire a security guard to stroll through the town during events, simply to make their presence known. Sarah is going to call the Boulder county sheriff’s office to see if they have any suggestions.

Kathy Trauner talked about championing an October Fest with Gene on Sept. 30th. Everyone was excited about seeing this event back on the calendar. Their plan is to have live bands, food trucks, a bier garden and pop up vendors.

Next meeting is Thursday, April 20th 9am Winot Coffee. See you there.
